EBU responds to the call for evidence on the evaluation of the public procurement Directives

To stay competitive with private broadcasters and global platforms, Public service media urge the EU to adopt flexible rules that support digital transformation, technological investment, and fair competition while preserving high-quality, independent media.

Public service media (PSM) play a crucial role in European democracy, providing trusted news, diverse cultural content, and innovative programming. However, outdated procurement rules could put them at a disadvantage compared to private broadcasters and global streaming platforms.

In response to the European Commission’s review of the Public Procurement Directives, PSM call for flexible rules that reflect the realities of today’s digital media landscape. Our submission highlights the need to maintain and expand existing exemptions for PSM, ensuring that procurement rules do not slow down digital transformation, restrict technological investments, or create unfair competition.

As the EU reviews its procurement framework, PSM remain committed to engaging in this important debate to safeguard pluralistic, independent, and high-quality media for all Europeans.
