During summer, many performers change their venues, some even move outdoors to match the ambiance of warm summer nights. EBU radio organizations are always there to give everyone a glimpse into the unique world of these festival performances, which are featured in the Euroradio Summer Festivals offer.
This year, the EBU is proud to present a total of 319 performances, 154 of which are in the live network. The 2025 lineup features an impressive number of 104 festivals, presented by 31 organization from 24 countries accross Europe and North America.
Notable events include:
Handel's 'Giulio Cesare in Egitto' from the Salzburg Festival, featuring a stellar cast including countertenor Christophe Dumaux in the title role and soprano Olga Kulchynska as Cleopatra. Emmanuelle Haïm will lead the performance with her ensemble Le Concert d’Astrée.
Quatuor Classica will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Keith Jarrett's 'The Köln Concert' with a special arrangement by François Vallières in Québec.
The Lucerne Festival is honoring Pierre Boulez’s 100th birthday, bringing together mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Chailly, as well as the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra and IRCAM production team, conducted by Jonathan Nott.
A selection of Wagner's musical dramas from the famous Bayreuth Festival will once again be featured, including 'Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg', 'The Ring Cycle', 'Parsifal', and 'Lohengrin', conducted by Simone Young, Pablo Heras-Casado, and Christian Thielemann.
The International Festival of Lyrical Art in Aix-en-Provence will present four diverse titles: from the dawn of opera, Cavalli’s 'La Calisto', to Mozart’s masterpiece 'Don Giovanni', a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Georges Bizet’s death with ‘Les Pêcheurs de perles’, and a rare gem, 'Louise' by Gustave Charpentier.
A total of 68 concerts will be broadcast from this year’s BBC Proms, featuring ensembles such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Chineke!, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and many others — alongside renowned soloists and conductors.
From Romania, audiences will enjoy an impressive array of leading ensembles including the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Philharmonia Orchestra, Staatskapelle Dresden, and more — joined by an exceptional lineup of soloists such as Martha Argerich, Alisa Weilerstein, and Jan Lisiecki, all thanks to the George Enescu International Festival.
We will also celebrate Arvo Pärt’s 90th birthday not just with the special offer (SM/2025/01/28/01-05) but also with a series of concerts, including those from the BBC Proms, Theatre of Voices Festival from Denmark, York Early Music Festival, and Sacred Music Festival from Latvia.
Another anniversary to be celebrated this year is the 150th birthday of Maurice Ravel. Throughout summer festivals, our members will bring many different performances of his ‘Piano Concerto in G’, ‘Boléro’, and many other beloved works performed by world-class musicians such as Bertand Chamayou, Yeol Eum Son, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Lucas and Arthur Jussen with the Orchestre National de France, ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic and many others.
