Every year, the Euroradio Christmas Music Day is eagerly awaited by listeners throughout Europe and beyond. On the Sunday before Christmas, EBU radio organizations contribute live or deferred concerts of music focused on the theme of Christmas. It has been one of the EBU’s most popular offerings ever since it first aired in 1995.
One of the keys to the Day’s appeal resides in its closeness, not only to radio listeners but also to the live audiences at the concert venues, who may enjoy traditional ceremonies or even be asked to sing along with the performers. The potential repertory is vast, ranging from traditional carols to Baroque sacred music and contemporary a cappella works.
Our most eagerly anticipated shared broadcast event, the Euroradio Christmas Music Day, will take place this year on 14 December 2025. Once again, the day unites listeners from all over Europe, just before Christmas, to share in a marathon of concert broadcasts from country to country, every hour, on the hour. This year’s edition will feature 14 concerts from 12 countries including a special 100-year celebration of the Swedish Radio Choir with Bach’s Christmas Oratorio from Stockholm, and the Ukrainian Radio Choir join us for traditional carols from Kyiv. Heading to warmer climates, we’re delighted to join Madrid for a live concert at 11:00 UTC with music from the Iberian Renaissance, and at 13:00 UTC, we’ll head to Helsinki to hear from early and folk music specialists Ensemble Gamut! live from Kallio Church. Benjamin Appl sings traditional early Christmas music from Munich and the BBC Singers highlight the astounding contribution of women composers to the Christmas music canon. Ēriks Ešenvalds brings the day to a close with a new version of his glorious Zurich Mass from Riga Cathedral, with coloratura soprano Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone, one of this year’s selected Euroradio Top Young Performers.
This edition has been curated by Jonathan Manners, Director of the BBC Singers.
The offer is available in MUS under the reference EURO/2025-2026/N/001-014.
The Euroradio Christmas Music Day would not be possible without the longstanding technical support of BBC Radio 3.
