The Eurosonic community consists of two complementary and interconnected pillars: the Eurosonic Strategy Group, responsible for strategic issues and partnerships, and Eurosonic Live, focused on live music production and broadcasting.
Eurosonic Strategy Group
The Eurosonic Strategy Group’s mission is based on the following points:
- Helping to understand and define popular (non- classical) music’s strategic role within EBU members’ radio portfolios.
- Highlighting the contribution that popular music makes to public service broadcasting.
- Highlighting our role as part of the local and international music ecosystems.
- Developing a greater understanding around the needs of both existing listeners and those who we are not currently reaching.
- Sharing and developing music programming formats, events and ideas – with a focus on digital audiences.
- Liaising with and learning from colleagues from other EBU groups and communities focused on music as well as on visual and digital platforms.
- Investing our time to help everyone in the community make more informed decisions and find solutions to problems that benefit our organizations and our audiences.
Eurosonic Live
Eurosonic Live is made up of EBU radio producers and managers specialized in pop/rock. It develops and launches projects with festivals, artists and record companies. Special events featuring the likes of Coldplay, Nick Cave, Black Keys, Radiohead, and many others have been made available. Major anniversaries and music milestones are also celebrated by showcasing EBU broadcasters’ outstanding archives.
The community has forged an enduring partnership with Europe’s biggest showcase festival, Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS), which takes place in Groningen (The Netherlands). EBU radio stations select and sponsor up-and-coming acts to perform at the Eurosonic Festival, hosted by ESNS.
Eurosonic Live supports and promotes pop in all its various forms, and makes the case for the role played by public service broadcasting across the music industry.
