EBU and NVIDIA join forces to strengthen AI sovereignty for PSM

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and NVIDIA have announced a landmark partnership to accelerate the development of sovereign AI and cloud technologies tailored to the unique needs of public service media.
Unveiled at NVIDIA’s GTC Paris event during VivaTech, the collaboration aims to empower EBU Members with secure, trustworthy and locally governed AI solutions, ensuring that innovation is anchored in values of transparency, accountability, and cultural identity.
“By advancing these capabilities together, we’re helping ensure that powerful, compliant and accessible media services are made available to all EBU members,” said Michael Eberhard, Chair of the EBU Technical Committee and CTO at ARD/SWR.
Together, the EBU and NVIDIA will engage a wide network of partners, from data centres to original equipment manufacturers, to ensure public media organisations can tap into cost-effective, high-performance AI while maintaining full control over their data, infrastructure and creative output.
EBU Director of Technology & Innovation Antonio Arcidiacono called the partnership “a shared foundation for trust, innovation and resilience that supports the growth of European media.”
At the heart of the initiative is the EBU’s Dynamic Media Facility and Media eXchange Layer architecture, which supports a new ecosystem of sovereign cloud services and scalable AI solutions. Together with know-how and advanced training from NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute, the collaboration provides the tooling and expertise to advance European cloud and AI solutions with a focus on sustainability, data privacy and European policy compliance.
The agreement marks a decisive step towards a future where public broadcasters don’t only adopt AI, but help shape it.
