EBU and UCI renew long-standing partnership to bring major UCI World Championships free-to-air to audiences across Europe
22 May 2025
Cycling fans across Europe will be able to watch major cycling events for free, following the European Broadcasting Union’s (EBU) acquisition of the European media rights to major UCI World Championships through 2031.
The renewed agreement covers all major disciplines for both Men’s and Women’s competitions across road, track, mountain bike, BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, cyclo-cross (including rounds of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup) trials and gravel, as well as the quadrennial UCI Cycling World Championships.
Whole or part of the package of races will be broadcast free-to-air in the following territories: Belgium* (RTBF and VRT) , Czechia (Czech TV), Denmark (TV2) , France (France Télévisions & l’Equipe), Germany (ZDF), Hungary (MTVA), Italy (RAI), Netherlands (NOS), Norway (TV2), Portugal (RTP), Slovakia (STVR), Slovenia (RTV), Spain (RTVE), Switzerland (SRG-SSR) and UK (BBC).
This new agreement reinforces the EBU’s leading market position by providing EBU Member broadcasters and their audiences with the widest range of cycling sports rights. It also ensures broad exposure through Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), who will also continue to broadcast all UCI World Championships on its various platforms thanks to a sub-license from the EBU.
The agreement also builds on the major deal reached late last year between EBU, A.S.O., and Unipublic to secure top cycling events including Tour de France, La Vuelta and other major races through 2030.
Glen Killane, Executive Director, EBU Sport said: "We’re proud to extend our successful partnership with UCI for another seven years. This renewed commitment highlights the EBU and its Members’ dedication to bringing world-class cycling to audiences across Europe, and to celebrating the thrilling events UCI continues to deliver across all disciplines of the sport.”
Frédéric Sanz, Head of Cycling and Summer Sports, EBU Sport said: “EBU Sport was pleased to participate in last year’s commercial process led by UCI. It was a great opportunity to show how international sports federations can benefit from long-term collaboration with the EBU. Our aim is to ensure maximum visibility for cycling fans and stakeholders across Europe through to 2031.”
David Lappartient, President, UCI said: “The EBU has enabled fans across Europe to follow UCI events free of charge for the past eight years. I am very pleased that we are continuing our collaboration for our various cycling disciplines until 2031. This means that we will be able to ensure maximum exposure for our events, enabling us to reach existing and new audiences across Europe.”
Christophe Marchadier, Director of Communications, Marketing, Media and CSR, UCI said: "Cycling is increasingly establishing itself as one of the major sports of the 21st century, particularly in Europe. It is essential that fans can continue to enjoy the excitement of the UCI World Championships. The extension of our long-standing partnership with the EBU guarantees their broadcast on major European public channels, and therefore their far-reaching accessibility. This coverage is enhanced by their presence on WBD's digital channels and platforms, which allows them to reach an even wider audience."
