France Télévisions has been named the winner of the EBU Technology & Innovation Award for its proof-of-concept implementation of the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standard. Yannick Olivier from France Télévisions was named the Young Technology Talent of the Year for his work on the SMPTE ST 2110 implementation for the Paris Olympics. The 2025 winners were revealed and honoured at the EBU Technology & Innovation Summit, hosted by Irish broadcaster RTÉ in Dublin, 05-06 June.
Both Awards are decided annually by the EBU Technical Committee, based on a tally of points assigned individually and secretly by each of the Committee members. The 2025 pool of nominations contained two dozen entries.
Technology & Innovation Award for France Télévisions
The Technology & Innovation Award recognises France Télévisions' efforts to address the growing need for verifying the origin and authenticity of digital media. In an environment where manipulated or false content can circulate rapidly, the C2PA framework provides a technical foundation for ensuring traceability and trust in media assets.
France Télévisions has played a leading role in applying this emerging standard. In collaboration with media technology company Dalet, it developed and trialled an implementation that included the creation of a custom C2PA-enabled player for a minimum viable product.
The EBU Technology & Innovation Award jury noted the project’s relevance and timeliness, highlighting its potential to support content integrity and provenance verification across the industry.
“France Télévision’s C2PA implementation is a meaningful step toward the broader adoption and potential industrialisation of C2PA in the media sector”, said Michael Eberhard, CTO of public media organization SWR/ARD, and Chair of the EBU Technical Committee. “We appreciate its value in supporting public service broadcasters in their mission to provide reliable information and help lay the groundwork for practical, scalable tools that can benefit media organisations globally.”
Young Technology Talent Award for Yannick Olivier
Yannick Olivier from France Télévisions was honoured with the Young Technology Talent Award for his work during the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where he was instrumental in the implementation of ST 2110 technology to enable transport of uncompressed UHD with HDR, immersive audio systems, SDR/HDR resolution conversions, as well as enhanced connectivity for OB trucks. His contributions were greatly appreciated by France Télévisions, earning him an Award nomination, and ultimately, the Award.
“It is the outstanding achievements of young talent that have made the first 100 years of public service media such a success, and their ideas an engagement are now laying the groudwork for the next 100 years”, said Antonio Arcidiacono, CTO and CIO at EBU. “I would like to warmly congratulate Yannick, and with him the next generation of engineers.”
Just like the main Award, the Young Technology Talent Award is decided separately and secretly. The fact that France Télévisions came first in both Award categories in 2025 is purely coincidental.
