Dynamic Media Facility (DMF)

Software-based Production Infrastructures

DMF in a nutshell

The Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) is a concept for modern, software-defined production infrastructures in the media industry. It aims to redefine media production for the modern age by promoting a flexible, interconnected ecosystem. Key aspects of the DMF include:

  • Software-based approach
  • Layered model inspired by cloud infrastructure
  • Interoperability
  • Unified Media Exchange Layer
  • Flexibility in deployment

The DMF concept aims to provide several benefits to media organizations:

  • Customizable workflows
  • Cost-effective scalability
  • Enhanced operational efficiency

DMF-MXL

One key element of the DMF is the Media eXchange Layer. Together with other industry organisations, including the NABA, the EBU is currently preparing a dedicated project to provide an Open Source solution for this layer.
