MXL refers for the Media eXchange Layer of the Dynamic Media Facility (DMF) reference architecture. It is also the name of an initiative that aims to create open source software for that layer in the stack. The goal is to enable interoperable exchange of media between professional AV production software.

The MXL group

- The Linux Foundation hosted MXL project is open. You can find the technical charter here.
- The first Proof of Concept code available is available at: github.com/dmf-mxl/mxl
